The Infamous Prison Guard Towers

A recent article in The Commercial Appeal about portable guard towers for Police to use on Beale Street brought this comment from a local:

So there are two officers up in a tower and probably a couple of more officers on the ground guarding the tower. That seems like a lot of resources just to provide lookout. Aren't there cameras all over Beale?

By the way, did anyone else think of the towers that were installed around the Mall of Memphis when they saw this? Those towers did more to scare people away than to make them feel secure. I don't think I'd feel safe going anywhere that needs guard towers to provide security.
